Church Creek Nursery is located on the banks of Church Creek in the heart of Johns Island in Charleston County, SC. It was begun in 1989 by Nancy Hart, a former horticulture teacher. Two greenhouses and a small shade structure were built, just prior to Hurricane Hugo's arrival. Miraculously the greenhouses survived with no damage and blooming plants were delivered to customers before power was even restored. During the succeeding years the nursery grew from 2 to 11 greenhouse structures, a large shade structure and over 2 acres in container fields. Our goal has always been to grow top quality annual and perennial color that will perform well once planted.
We are always on the lookout for new plants and maintain a sizeable trial/display garden to educate ourselves as well as our customers. We feel it is important to gather as much information as possible about the cultural requirements and performance of the plants we sell.
We also feel it is important to share our knowledge of plants and thus are active in the Charleston Horticultural Society, the Master Gardener Program, the Charleston Area Children's Garden Project, the SC Greenhouse Growers' Association and the SC Nursery and Landscape Association among others.
